YSL to change their name to...

YSL - one of the most recognisable French luxury labels has announced it's decision to change it's name. No longer will we know the brand as Yves Saint Laurent but as.... drum roll...

Saint Laurent Paris. SLP.

Back in March we heard a new creative director - Hedi Slimane - would be taking over for Stefano Pilati and the rumour mill is rife that the name change is a re-branding strategy care of Slimane. A statement referring to his takeover stated Slimane had been given "total creative responsibility for the brand image and all of its collections." Well I guess he has taken that to heart.

As Slimane's new collection is due for Spring 2013, it is rumoured the new moniker will be released to coincide with the collection.

So what about the ever-recognisable YSL logo? Apparently that is staying and will still be seen as the fashion house's main logo.

Interesting... what do you guys think of the new name? From a PR point of view, it's all anyone is talking about in the fashion world and with the Spring 2013 collection date looming, I think all eyes will be on YSL (or should I say SLP?). I don't hate the name, but I can't wrap my head around the fact they are still going to use the image, so why change the name?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
