Style stealer: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Model off-duty
I always love looking at off-duty models and their fashion choices. Rosie is a favourite of mine - I particularly like her laid back style featuring a lot of blazers, scarves, jeans and statement bags.

The best thing about this outfit is all of the items are so common and therefore are virtually everywhere. No matter what your budget you could pop into any chain stores or through to designer boutiques and nail this outfit. This particular outfit is so easy to achieve on a low budget - particularly with the mid-year sales on at the moment.

DIY - bunting decorations made easy.

In a previous post I mentioned how I have been commissioned to plan a party and either make and/or purchase all decorations. For unforeseeable reasons the party has been postponed, which actually is all the better for me as most of the decorations I have opted to make myself. It's not long now until the party and I've pretty much got most things under control.

The hostess with the mostest has asked that the decorations have a yellow theme. So I have opted for whites, yellows, oranges etc. So far I have made hanging candles, hanging flower arrangements, paper flowers and I've bought many a lantern. I have to make some more decorations but they won't take long at all.

I promised I'd show you how to make the decorations, so today I bring you a fool-proof way to accomplish bunting (expect to see the other DIY decorations up soon).

Step by step instructions after the jump.

Black on black on black.

Black is my all time favourite - maybe I'll even wear a black wedding dress. Nah, probably not. But I love it so. It looks effortlessly cool and stylish and what better way to hide on an off day than under black shades and a black hat?

Cue the red lipstick for a pop of colour.

YSL to change their name to...

YSL - one of the most recognisable French luxury labels has announced it's decision to change it's name. No longer will we know the brand as Yves Saint Laurent but as.... drum roll...

Saint Laurent Paris. SLP.

Back in March we heard a new creative director - Hedi Slimane - would be taking over for Stefano Pilati and the rumour mill is rife that the name change is a re-branding strategy care of Slimane. A statement referring to his takeover stated Slimane had been given "total creative responsibility for the brand image and all of its collections." Well I guess he has taken that to heart.

As Slimane's new collection is due for Spring 2013, it is rumoured the new moniker will be released to coincide with the collection.

So what about the ever-recognisable YSL logo? Apparently that is staying and will still be seen as the fashion house's main logo.

Interesting... what do you guys think of the new name? From a PR point of view, it's all anyone is talking about in the fashion world and with the Spring 2013 collection date looming, I think all eyes will be on YSL (or should I say SLP?). I don't hate the name, but I can't wrap my head around the fact they are still going to use the image, so why change the name?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Street style.

I could trawl through street style blogs all day, err'day. I have so many photos saved and the following are on high rotation in my inspiration folders at the moment.

I especially love looking at street style blogs for outfit inspiration. Admittedly (and sadly) I don't own any of their amazing designer duds but it's a good medium to get ideas. The main inspiration I get from these photos are:

Colours. I look at what colours the subject has paired together and what works. I then filter this into my own outfits.

Styles. As it is with high-end designs, there are interpretations everywhere which we end up buying at Zara, H&M, Witchery, Country Road etc. I look to how the subjects style their pieces and take heed!

Silhouettes. I pick up so many new silhouettes and shapes looking at how people style things - this is particularly helpful for layering in winter.

DIY. There are soooo many items below that could easily be made at home - and let me tell you, with my free time lately I have been sewing and stitching up a storm!

Pastel hues.

Pastel hues.
Because I am so pale I generally steer clear of pastels for fear of my white glow burning innocent bystanders retinas; but I cannot get enough of this Phillip Lim leather vest. To me it is perfect and actually not that expensive for designer and leather.

Guess what's going on my shopping list?

Snip snip.

Hi my name is Claire and I'm in a hair rut.

For the past 3.5 years I've had the same hair cut, which I must admit I do love but I am also kind of ready for a change. Before that I had verrrry long hair (which I will never go back to) and after wanting to go Michelle Williams boy-short I decided I wasn't game enough yet and opted for the bob.

My hair is pretty easy to maintain. When I was younger I had very tight ringlets, which luckily for me, dropped out - but now my hair has a mean (not in a good way) kink to it. Unfortunately this isn't an effortless bed-head look... I find that I have to straighten my hair each time I wash it. Which is nearly every day. Boo.

Also, my hair in INSANELY thick. Actually, it's more that I just have a LOT of hair. My hairdresser always comments how much hair I have and is overwhelmed by the time it takes him just to thin it out to a normal thickness.

So... it's time for a change. I was throwing around the idea of growing it out but vetoed that idea for the following reasons:

  • I hate the in-between stage (which I'm very close to at the moment). This means my hair flicks out on my shoulders and only looks good pulled up or curled - and I can't be bothered to curl my hair each morning
  • every time I ask a group "long hair or short hair?" most girls agree on short hair but EVERY SINGLE GUY says long hair. Move on fellas - long hair went out as the norm a long time ago in the fashion world. What is it with guys and long hair? I personally would take short hair over long hair any day of the week (probably because I don't have the patience for dealing with incredibly long, incredibly thick hair)
  • see aforementioned. My hair is so thick it takes FOREVER to dry it and style it. Even after having it thinned.
Well at least it's settled. Short hair it is.

I also want to change my hair colour - I've only coloured my hair a handful of times and always opt for my natural dark brown colour.

The following photos are the kind of colours I'm after:

I do want to go a fair bit lighter, but I'll have to be careful as with my pale skin I don't want to look washed out...

The following photos are the style I will get cut, which is exactly what I have now anyway... I always like getting it cut that little bit shorter though as my hair grows so quickly.

I'm just putting it out there, Bingers has the greatest hair known to mankind.

Eventually, this is the hair style I will end up with:

If anyone has suggestions/great pictures of cuts or colours - let me know! I'll report in with a sneaky photo once I've got it done (prob not for a week or two).
